On Tuesday, April 14th, the IRS announced tax relief for all individuals and businesses in Mississippi that extends tax filing and payments to June 8, 2026. This tax relief is in response to a FEMA-declared disaster caused by a severe winter storm that began on January 23, 2026 and applies to taxpayers in all 82 counties of the state.

Mississippi Tax Deadline 2026

All individuals and businesses will have until June 8, 2026 to file returns and pay any taxes that were originally due between the period of January 23, 2026 through June 8, 2026.

The new June 8th deadline applies to individuals who live, and businesses (including tax exempt organizations) whose principal place of business is located in Mississippi. The following are extended:

  • Most tax return filings: individual, corporate, partnerships, S-corps, the various types of estate and trust, annual information returns of tax exempt organizations, and employment and certain excise tax returns.
  • Estimated income tax payments originally due on or after January 23, 2026.
  • Penalties for failure to pay estimated tax installments are waived for this period as long as such payments are made on or before June 8, 2026.
  • Other time-sensitive actions.

If you have a business and reside in Mississippi, this relief is coming in late, but the IRS should automatically apply it to you. However, if you are an affected taxpayer and receive a late filing or late payment penalty from the IRS, the IRS can abate the penalty with proper documentation.
