Experienced Tax Manager Application

Avizo Group, Inc. is seeking an experienced accountant to join our team as a Tax Manager with 10 plus years in public accounting. The position is full-time and based out of our Fairhope office. The Tax Manager will be responsible for helping lead our tax practice. This role will require a thorough understanding of the federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations. The Tax Manager will provide strategic advice to clients. In addition, the Tax Manager will work closely with the firm’s leadership team, other members of the tax team, and the operations team to ensure that the firm’s tax services are delivered effectively. The Tax Manager will be part of our Strategy Team and help the firm develop and implement our strategic objectives as we continue to improve and grow Avizo. The Tax Manager will also be active in the community to promote business development and growth for Avizo. 

Key Expertise and Technical Skills: 

  • Show specialized expertise in managing and optimizing tax positions for various entities and individuals. 
  • Be proficient in handling multi-state flow-through entities, ensuring compliance and tax optimization across jurisdictions. 
  • Successfully lead tax engagements as both the job manager and the service lead/return signer, coordinating closely with clients, partners, and staff. 
  • Acts as the primary point of contact for clients, offering tailored tax solutions and strategic advice. 
  • Have extensive experience in preparing and reviewing individual, partnership, corporation, and trust tax returns. 
  • Supervise and mentor a team of ​​tax professionals, fostering their technical skills and professional development. 
  • Identify and implement best practices to enhance tax processes and workflows, ensuring efficiency and accuracy. 
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, staying current with tax law changes. 
  • Assist clients with tax planning and strategies to minimize liabilities and maximize financial benefits. 
  • Collaborate with other departments and service lines to deliver comprehensive and integrated tax services. 
  • Seek ways to continuously improve processes and identify tools and technology to enhance Avizo’s tax services for our clients’ needs. 

 People Management/Relationship 

  • Evaluate the significance of problems or issues and interpret their implications for the client, considering the client’s risk tolerance. 
  • Lead client meetings. 
  • Build and maintain client relationships through direct contact with appropriate organizational levels on assigned engagements, consistently providing timely responses to both client and internal requests. 
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the firm’s services and effectively present ideas to clients, resulting in additional services. 

 Expertise 

  • Research and review work papers to identify and analyze various book-to-tax differences. 
  • Apply relevant tax laws to specific clients and their unique circumstances. 
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding and application of tax planning concepts. 
  • Possess a strong comprehension of tax codes, regulations, rulings, and case law. 
  • Identify industry trends to uncover potential savings and risk reduction opportunities relevant to clients’ businesses and tax obligations. 
  • Review research findings, tax returns, and client tax work papers to ensure compliance with firm policies and professional standards and determine the best course of action for the client. 

 Productivity & Business Growth 

  • Identify business development opportunities through new or existing contacts. 
  • Understand our business model and profit generation and demonstrate the ability to act swiftly and strategically to capitalize on opportunities. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. 
  • CPA certification is required. 
  • 10+ years of experience in tax compliance and planning. 
  • In-depth knowledge of tax codes, rules, and their implications. 
  • Experience in preparing tax returns and researching complex tax issues. 
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and analytical skills. 
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients. 
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines. 
  • Experience leading a team as well as coaching and mentoring staff. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and team members. 
  • Enthusiasm for community involvement. 
  • Experience and general interest in helping small business owners achieve their goals and objectives for success. 
  • Experience with Thomson Reuters Ultra Tax and related software is preferred.
